The George Rutledge House (1928)

The George Rutledge home at 4056 Lakewood Drive is one of the "Original Seven" Lakewood Estates houses.

This high-style American Foursquare retains outstanding vintage details including entrance doors with beveled glass sidelights, 9-over-1 sash windows, beautiful interior woodwork, and the original bath fixtures and tile.
Mr. Rutledge was a banker, civic leader, and former mayor of Bessemer (1912-1914). He lived in the home until 1942.
The home is owned by Russ and Martha Brown.

We have many fond memories of living in this home. We had a Living Nativity each year where local clubs and families participated. We also had Mr. and Mrs. Claus on the porch. We remember the big Easter Egg Hunts at the lake, the Fourth of July Parades and of course....all the great parties and wonderful neighbors! We are glad to see this home opened up for the Tour of Homes.
